Supplications for Having Children

<QUESTION>

A family member has been trying for a child for many years. Medical tests haven’t come up with any reason why the couple has been unsuccessful. Are there any wird / dua's you can advise for the couple? 

<ANSWER>

In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,

In order to be blessed with pious children, one should recite the following supplication abundantly, whenever possible:

Transliteration:

Rabbi la tazar ni fardan wa anta khayrul warithin

Translation:

“O my Lord! Leave me not without offspring, though you are the best of inheritors.” (Surah al-Anbiya, 89)

Another supplication (dua) that may be useful is:

Transliteration:

“Rabbi hab li min ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibah innaka sami’ul dua”

Translation:

“O my Lord! Grant unto me from You a progeny that is pure: for You are He that hears prayer!
